Welcome to Lloyd James Funeral Home

Lloyd James Funeral Home is the oldest funeral home in Tyler. Originally it operated as part of the Swann’s Furniture Store, which opened in 1895. In 1920, Mr. Swann sold the funeral service to a long time associate A.K. Thorndike and it became known as the Nunnallee-Thonrdike Undertaking Company. The firm operated under that name until the early 1930’s when it became known as Thorndike Undertaking Company and moved to 110 E. Front Street.

Mr. James died in 1967. A.C. Smart, Johnnie Stewart and Leonard Rozell, all partners of Mr. James at the time of his death, acquired his interest in the funeral home and continued the legacy of service to families of East Texas. In 1984, the present location on First Street was remodeled.
